Local Public Association "Ala-Too Bugu" for the protection and conservation of wildlife on the territory of the state wildlife preserve "Zhargylchak"
The Zhargylchak State Sanctuary was established in 1990 and covers an area of more than 23,000 hectares. It is home to the Tien Shan brown bear, snow leopard, maral, and large birds of prey listed in the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan. At present it is under the jurisdiction of the Directorate of the Biosphere Territory "Ysyk- Kol" and, along with other specially protected natural areas, needs measures to preserve flora, fauna, seed stock and protection from poachers. Partially and quite legally this function can be performed by various public organizations. Community Association "Ala-Too Bugu" is one of such organizations, created by local activists in 2021 to solve the tasks of ensuring the protection regime of the reserve, conducting on its territory monitoring of fauna and flora, introducing modern methods of grazing livestock, developing environmental, scientific and economic justification of activities.
