Labour Intensive Forest Activities with Vulnerable Communities in Lebanon
The project promotes sustainable forest growth in the Shouf and West Bekaa regions by reducing fire risks, creating short-term jobs for vulnerable populations, and enhancing socio-economic resilience. It supports eco-tourism and sustainable resource use by transforming forest waste into briquettes and compost, improving soil fertility and ecosystem resilience. Key activities include creating firebreaks, rehabilitating hiking trails, producing bioenergy and compost, conducting environmental awareness camps for local NGOs, and developing a forest management plan for the Dalboun Oak Forest. Achievements include 107.36 hectares of firebreaks, 72.36 km of trails maintained, 800 kg of charcoal produced, and the completion of the forest management plan.
