Greater Bogani Nane Wartabone
North Sulawesi Province with 15,272 km2 of area and 1,837 km of coastline, is one of the richest in natural marine and coastal resources. The Bogani Nani Wartanobe National Park (BNWNP) covers 282,008 ha in North Sulawesi and Gorontalo provinces and is the largest protected area in Sulawesi, with one of the most intact large contiguous blocks of forest remaining on the island. The large extent of remaining forest makes it one of the highest priorities in Wallacea for long-term conservation due to its potential to sustainable large, viable, populations of Wallacea’s unique endemic wildlife. Along with North Maluku, these provinces are located within the Coral Triangle, they are home to a high diversity of coral reefs, reef fish, pelagic fish, and corridors for many migratory species. The marine ecosystems are of great importance to the livelihood of local people, providing important fishery resources and tourism destinations, as well as critical habitats for some key fish species.
