Gran Chaco
app.kba-coverage.contributions.title 0.5%
The Paraguayan Chaco, which covers almost 250,000 km2, encompasses about one-quarter of the Gran Chaco Americano. This region includes the dry open forest and savanna in the northwest, as well as the wet seasonally flooded areas in the southeast. However, the increased investment in ranching in the Paraguayan Chaco, driven by the ban on land conversion activities in the East, has led to accelerated deforestation and ecosystem degradation. The Paraguayan Chaco is crucial for the country's economy due to its large cattle farms. WCS has collaborated with ranchers and small cattle farmers on sustainable management practices to mitigate the impact on wildlife and habitat.
