Marine and Coastal Biodiversity Conservation in Anfeh Mina
The objective of this project is to provide scientific evidence of marine resources found in Anfeh to inform relevant decision makers and enable the development of an action plan to protect the area’s biodiversity. The scope of the project was to implement a comprehensive baseline assessment for A-MPA in support to its declaration as an MPA. The baseline assessment builds on existing knowledge and employs established methodologies to collect information on: 1) Juveniles and adults of motile species. 2) Sessile species colonizing rocky and sandy habitats. 3) Water quality parameters indicating the profile of Anfeh’s water column during the study period. 4) Grain size (granulometry) in the study area indicating the prevailing hydrodynamic energy. 5) Citizen-based monitoring systems (CBMS), and propose such a system for the A-MPA. 6) Local management of fisheries through the introduction of a catch/effort system FLOUCA COOP (Fish Landings Operational Utility for Catch Assessment for Cooperatives) to the Anfeh Cooperative of Fishermen (A-CF).
